Drag racing is clearly in Clay Coughlin's blood. He's the grandson of JEGS High Performance founder and Hall of Famer Jeg Coughlin Sr., the son of multi-time drag racing champion Mike Coughlin and the nephew to NHRA stars John Coughlin, Troy Coughlin Sr. and Jeg Coughlin Jr.
Considering his linage, it should come as no surprise that young Clay already has found success at the drag strip.
Under his dad's tutelage, Clay continues to develop his skills as a racer, including the art of finish-line driving prevalent in bracket racing. Clay scored a victory in his JEGS.com Junior Dragster for the first time in 2012, his first season as a driver. That win came not long after he turned 8 years old – which made him eligible to race in the class – showing plenty of natural talent right out of the gate.
His father has helped teach him some of the nuances of drag racing. His dad learned a lot as crew chief, too, guiding Clay in the intricacies of the sport.
Clay will continue his promising career in 2017 in his JEGS.com Junior Dragster.
