Troy Coughlin Jr.

Although he's only in his mid-20s, Troy Coughlin Jr. already has an impressive drag racing r?sum?. He's an NHRA champion, having captured the 2013 Division 3 Super Gas championship, he's won races at both the divisional and national level, including two times at the prestigious U.S. Nationals, and he's taken home a variety of high dollar bracket race jackpots.

The son of two-time Pro Mod champion Troy Coughlin, Troy Jr. was even named to Drag Illustrated's "30 Under 30" list, which honors the "brightest young people in drag racing," according to the magazine.

In 2017, Troy Jr. competed in Top Fuel for 17 races, recording career (and family) bests of 3.696 seconds and 328.86 mph, before returning to his Sportsman roots in time for the 63rd annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals.

Troy Jr. also competed in Pro Mod in 2015, racing to three semifinal appearances and a ninth-place finish in the points, which earned him the category's "Rookie of the Year" award. By racing in Top Fuel and Pro Mod, Troy Jr. became the first of the third generation of Coughlins to race professionally, following in the footsteps of grandfather Jeg Coughlin Sr., his aforementioned father Troy, and uncles John, Mike and Jeg Jr.

Like many drag racers, Troy Jr.'s racing career started in a Junior Dragster, and he promptly proved his abilities by winning the class at a divisional event in 2005 at his home track of National Trail Raceway.

Showing his family's entrepreneurial spirit, Troy Jr. began a side business the same year, building and dyno-testing Junior Dragster engines for his friends and fellow competitors. He raced the half-scale dragsters for seven years before taking over Uncle John's Super Comp dragster at age 17.

Soon after that move, Troy Jr. became the first of the third generation of Coughlins to win an NHRA national event when he went to victory lane at the final Las Vegas race of 2009.

In 2010, Troy Jr. won his first of two U.S. Nationals titles by winning "the Big Go" in Super Comp. He finished eighth in the Super Comp national standings and fourth in Division 3 that year.

The following season, Troy Jr. beat teammate Kenny Underwood, one of the most talented bracket racers in the country, for the $20,000 top prize at the Spring Buck Blast in Valdosta, Ga. He also was runner-up at the Moroso 5-Day event, and he raced to a semifinal finish in Super Comp at the U.S. Nationals.

After his D3 championship season in 2013, Troy Jr. continued his winning ways in 2014. He scored three victories in the ultra-competitive Super Gas class in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, including another U.S. Nationals title. He also won the JEGS NHRA Northern SPORTSnationals in Columbus, Ohio, and the Division 1 race in Cecil County, Md. Plus, he was the overall points champion and the Day 5 winner of the prestigious Moroso Memorial 5-Day Bracket Championship.

Troy Jr. remains devoted to JEGS High Performance as well and continues to be one of the top associates in the company founded by his grandfather.
