Troy Coughlin

Troy Coughlin and his twin-turbo JEGS.com Chevrolet Corvette have become a winning fixture on the NHRA Pro Mod Series.

In just a handful of years competing in the popular category, the veteran driver already is a world champion, having won the 2012 Pro Mod title. He also finished second in the points standings in 2013 and 2014.

The second-eldest of JEGS founder Jeg Coughlin Sr.'s four sons, Coughlin won two more Pro Mod races in '14, bringing his career total to six. It has become common knowledge that Coughlin, his award-winning crew chief Steve Petty, and the talented JEGS.com team will contend for the trophy at every Pro Mod race.

Coughlin has also been key in the overall growth of the class in recent years. As part of the Real Pro Mod Association, Coughlin and JEGS are founding supporters of NHRA Pro Mod racing, which has seen increased participation by teams, drivers, and sponsors. More is expected in the years to come.

As a younger man, Coughlin paved the way for his family's second generation of drivers by becoming the first of the four Coughlin brothers to turn pro. He made his Pro Stock debut in 1994 and later scored the first of his three wins in the class in 2001.

Coughlin actually began his winning ways in 1991 when he drove to victory lane in Super Comp at a Division 3 race at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., and he won his first national event later that year with a Super Gas victory at the prestigious U.S. Nationals.

The 2012 Pro Mod championship is the second of Coughlin’s decorated career, as he also won the NMCA Pro Street world title in 2009.

Some of his other accomplishments in drag racing include membership in the Holley Six-Second Pro Stock Club and Speed Pro 200-mph Club, a trophy run at the exclusive $50,000 Winston Showdown in 2000, various Sportsman-level wins, and a memorable and profitable weekend at the $50,000 Big Dog Shootout in 2005.

Aside from his own racing endeavors, Coughlin is helping guide the promising career of his son, T.J., who is finding success in NHRA's Sportsman ranks. T.J. scored three Super Gas victories in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series in 2014, highlighted by an impressive triumph at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. T.J. also won the JEGS NHRA Northern SPORTSnationals national event in Columbus, Ohio, and the Division 1 race in Cecil County, Md.
