Troy Coughlin

It's not far-fetched to call Troy Coughlin Sr. and his JEGS.com Pro Mod team a dynasty.

Coughlin won the 2015 NHRA Pro Mod championship, marking the second time in four years he was the man holding the trophy at the end of the season. He also won the championship in 2012 and ended up second in the Pro Mod points standings in 2013 and 2014.

No driver has a better record than Coughlin over the last four years. In addition to the two championships, he has six victories and five runner-up finishes in the 40 Pro Mod races NHRA has staged.

Plus, he guided son Troy Jr. through his rookie season in Pro Mod, a year capped by Troy Jr. winning the class' Rookie of the Year award.

It has become common knowledge that Coughlin, his award-winning crew chief Steve Petty, and the talented JEGS.com team will contend for the trophy at every Pro Mod race.

The second-oldest of JEGS founder Jeg Sr.'s four sons, Coughlin has also been key in the overall growth of the class in recent years. As part of the Real Pro Mod Association, Coughlin and JEGS are founding supporters of NHRA Pro Mod racing, which has seen increased participation by teams, drivers, and sponsors.

The Pro Mod class has grown into one of the most competitive in NHRA, with high car counts at every race

As a younger man, Coughlin paved the way for his family's second generation of drivers by becoming the first of the four Coughlin brothers to turn pro. He made his Pro Stock debut in 1994 and later scored the first of his three wins in the class in 2001.

Coughlin actually began his winning ways in 1991 when he drove to victory lane in Super Comp at a Division 3 race at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., and he won his first national event later that year with a Super Gas victory at the prestigious U.S. Nationals.

The 2012 Pro Mod championship was the second of Coughlin’s decorated career, as he also won the NMCA Pro Street title in 2009.

Some of his other accomplishments in drag racing include membership in the Holley Six-Second Pro Stock Club and Speed Pro 200-mph Club, a trophy run at the exclusive $50,000 Winston Showdown in 2000, various Sportsman-level wins, and a memorable and profitable weekend at the $50,000 Big Dog Shootout in 2005.
