Coughlin Has Plenty of Confidence Heading into the Windy City

September 13, 2017

After a week off, Cody Coughlin and his ThorSport Racing team are returning to the race track in the Windy City for the first and only time this season. Coughlin will pilot his JEGS.com/RIDE TV Toyota Tundra in the Chicagoland 225 at the Chicagloland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Friday, September 15th.

The 21-year-old driver has made two starts at the 1.5-mile oval outside of Chicago in the ARCA Racing Series. The last time Coughlin was there he qualified on the pole in 2015.

Having prior experience at the race track is something that hasn’t been common for Coughlin, a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender. Heading into Chicago with plenty of laps and a top five finish already under his belt gives Coughlin a lot of confidence for Friday’s race.

“It’s always nice to be familiar with a race track. I’m sure some things have changed. The track is probably a bit more worn out than it was the last time I raced there. First practice will probably be a bit of a feeling out period, but I know the line heading in. I’ve run well here before, and the team has had good speed on the intermediate tracks so I have a good feeling for Friday night.”

If Coughlin can replicate his past ARCA performances on Friday night he’ll be in a position to score a new career-best finish.

“That would be pretty cool,” Coughlin said.  “Honestly, I just want to give my team the best finish possible. My guys work really hard in the shop and at the race track. I want to reward them for their hard work.”

Coughlin’s race weekend will begin on Thursday, September 14th with two practice sessions. The first practice session will begin at 2:30 p.m. CT. Final practice will begin at 5:30 p.m. CT.

Friday, September 15th is Chicagoland 225 race day. Coughlin’s day will begin with qualifying at 4:05 p.m. CT live on FOX Sports 1. The green flag for the Chicagoland 225 will wave at 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 CT live on FOX Sports 1.

Friday night’s race is a 150-lap race and it is broken down into three stages. The first stage will end on lap 35. The middle stage will end on lap 70 and the race’s final stage will end at lap 150 unless the race requires NASCAR Overtime.

Race fans will have the chance to meet Cody Coughlin on Friday at the Chicagoland Speedway track autograph session from 1 p.m. CT – 1:45 p.m.
