Clay Coughlin has plenty of mentors as he continues to learn the intricacies of drag racing.
First, there's his dad, multi-time drag racing champion Mike Coughlin. Then his grandfather, JEGS High Performance founder and Hall of Famer Jeg Coughlin Sr. And his uncles, NHRA stars John Coughlin, Troy Coughlin Sr. and Jeg Coughlin Jr. Not to forget his many cousins, including multi-time NHRA winner and champion Troy Coughlin Jr.
His father has helped teach him some of the nuances of drag racing. Under his dad's tutelage, Clay continues to develop his skills as a racer, including the art of finish-line driving prevalent in bracket racing.
Clay showed plenty of talent early in his driving career, scoring a victory in his JEGS.com Junior Dragster for the first time in 2012, his first season as a driver. That win came not long after he turned 8 years old – which made him eligible to race in the class.
Clay will continue his promising career in 2019 in his JEGS.com Junior Dragster.
